We had a great time in Seattle, WA

Thank you!

Thursday, April 27th, 2023

On April 27th, DIG gathered for an inspiring evening of food, drink, and reconnecting, overlooking the Puget Sound.

Since 2006, the Seattle community has supported DIG’s work around the world, and we have been able to do so much good because of the seeds you’ve planted.

After some pandemic time away, we were thrilled to go back to the Pacific Northwest and join you for an inspired conversation about DIG’s work past, present and future.

Chef Andrew Ray and mixologist Sara Crissman took us on a culinary adventure that connected our local and global stories, and highlighted that which we all have in common. What a great night!

If you missed us, we’d love for you to consider making a meaningful contribution to DIG’s Seattle From the Ground Up campaign. We are on our way to our goal!

From the Ground Up is a campaign to fully equip DIG’s Local Facilitators as they grow and adapt DIG’s programs in Kenya, Uganda, and Senegal.

These women and men are preparing the most marginalized members of society to not only become key contributors to their families but are also creating more resilient food systems.

Any gift you make through this event will go towards Seattle’s $30k equipping goal.

Who Set the Table

Chef Andrew Ray

Andrew Ray is a rising Seattle chef, currently part of the culinary team at Bar Miriam in Queen Anne.  Andrew loves pairing European comfort food with an innovative cocktail menu.

Honing his skills under the mentorship of some of Seattle’s best and brightest, including Cody and Andrea Westerfield, the creatives behind Bar Miriam, as well as Seattle’s Da La Soil and Bakers.  In May, Andrew will be expanding his career to New York.

DIG was excited to have Andrew’s Cocktails & Castoffs-themed menu for our April 27th private event taking us on a journey through food, visiting DIG’s gardens in Africa while keeping us sustainably rooted in our personal landscape.  His fare was thoughtfully paired with Sara Crissman’s one-night-only signature cocktail.

Mixologist, Sara Crissman

Originally from Orlando, Fl, Sara has been working in hospitality since 2007. After moving to Seattle in 2012, Sara landed at Spinasse on Capitol Hill and has worked at various restaurants throughout the city. In 2017, Sara made the move behind the bar to focus on craft cocktails and spirits. Sara joined the team at Baker’s- Sunset Hill in 2019 and hasn’t looked back!

“My first love was wine and after I became a sommelier, I really wanted to apply my studies on spirits from around the world. I love to pair cocktails and food together. Understanding unique flavors of both food and drink and finding the right match that goes together well is something I love to do. It’s my goal to provide warm hospitality and create an environment where guests can relax and enjoy. When hospitality is done right, I see that as a form of art.”

We thoroughly enjoyed raising a glass to DIG with Andrew and Sara while watching the sun set over Puget Sound. Thank you all!
