Setting the Table

Pierre Thiam – chef, author, and social activist – is internationally known for bringing West African cuisine to the global fine dining world.

His company, Yolélé Foods, advocates for smallholder farmers in Africa’s Sahel region by opening new markets for crops grown there. His TedTalk has been viewed over one million times and his cookbooks have won numerous awards, including the James Beard Award for Best International Cookbook.

Teranga, Chef Pierre’s Harlem-based restaurant, reflects the depth, richness, and vibrancy of Africa’s diverse culinary traditions in a modern, fast-casual setting.

DIG is proud to have Chef Pierre on our Advisory Board.  Like us, he’s passionate about promoting diverse, health conscious food cultures where eating and sharing food is an act of love for oneself, ones community, and the environment.

At this year’s NYC event, Chef Pierre’s Teranga team will take us on a culinary journey to West Africa, where the DIG program first began in 2006
